The Nayak family has been taking care of Kalmargi for over three generations now and is still a landmark in the village and surrounding region within the district.
Cattle grazing and herding has been very scarce in the first decade of 2000s. But the Kalmargi can easily be dated to 1950s. Shiriyar Nayak family has called Kalmagi their home for since early 1950s and made sure to keep the Kalmargi filled with water.
